However
Qatar is an Islamic country, alcohol is allowed in
five star hotels. At least
80% of hotels in
Doha serve liquor even in the day time.
If a person wishing to have a drink he/she
should first get a
license to buy alcohol. But, when I went to one of the
hotels which provide alcohol they only asked me to change my
Qatari formal(traditional) clothing and come again, so I can get into the bar. They didn't ask for either licenses or age. There is no good reason why a person cannot
enter a wine corner wearing traditional outfit. While, there are more serious
consequences from consuming alcohol such as, car accidents, family problems and
addiction.
An excellent example is
Saudi Arabia, which have more five
stars hotels than Qatar. Yet they do not serve alcohol in hotels or anywhere
else. Moreover, encouraging Qatari traders to open more regional hotels with no
alcohol would help to compensate for the loss from banning liquor. For the
reason that, tourists didn't come to enjoy drinking. The reason they came is to
see Qatar’s people, culture and heritage.
